World Chess Day is an annual celebration by Aliwal Chess Club that reimagines chess through creativity, connection, and culture. It’s a one-day festival where everyone is welcome — from casual players to creators, from seasoned strategists to curious newcomers.

Anyone and everyone. Whether you’re 8 or 80, a beginner or a blitz pro, World Chess Day is open to all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels.

Not at all! Many of our zones — like storytelling, live music, creative booths, and the “We’re Not Really Here for Chess” social game — don’t require much chess knowledge. Come to explore and have fun. We also have learn chess basics lessons for newbies!

Includes access to all zones, free play areas. Lego Printmaking Workshops are on paid basis to support the creatives!
Some limited-capacity programs (like the Grandmaster Simul or Tournament) require pre-registration.

Expect DJ sets, creative chess zones, a robot chess player, storytelling sessions, pop-up workshops, Neon Chess, tournaments, and so much more. Every corner is designed to surprise and connect.

Yes! We’re hosting the ACC Rapid Tournament and, for the first time ever, a Grandmaster Simul Challenge. Pre-registration is required, and there are prizes to be won.

Of course. We’ve designed experiences like Play with a Stranger and We’re Not Really Here for Chess to help you meet new people through the game. Solo doesn’t mean alone here.

Yes — we’ve got beginner-friendly Learn Chess sessions, interactive storytelling, and even robot chess with SenseRobot! Perfect for kids and first-timers to get hands-on with the game.

Yes! Re-entry is allowed throughout the day — just keep your wristband on and you’re good to go. Come and go as you please, the board will still be here.

You’ll find our F&B partner, State of Affairs serving up drinks throughout the day.

Just yourself (and a joyous spirit!). Boards and materials are provided. Wear something comfy — and maybe something glow-friendly for Neon Chess Turnover!
